The University of Salamanca hosted the First Workshop on Independent Video Games and Education last June 2025, as part of the Playcomp project.
This workshop brought together researchers, teachers, and professionals from the educational field and game studies to discuss their different experiences using independent video games as a pedagogical tool and, additionally, to develop Playcomp’s own educational resource.
The first day, open to the public and broadcast live, was dedicated to the communication of a series of presentations on the experiences of the Playcomp team using independent video games in the educational field. Additionally, Víctor Navarro, associate professor and researcher at TecnoCampus (UPF) and president of DiGRA Spain, delivered a keynote addressing the field of Game Studies.
The afternoon of the first day and the entire second day were dedicated to internal sessions of the research team. We worked together on writing and designing activities to define and develop the Playcomp tool for implementation in educational centers, aimed at improving the civic and socio-emotional competencies of secondary school students.
